Porcelain Veneers in San Jose, CA

Thin, custom-made porcelain shells that can change the color, shape, and balance of your smile — planned around your goals.

What porcelain veneers are

Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made shells of dental ceramic bonded to the front surfaces of teeth. Because they are made for your teeth, their shape, size, and shade can be designed to look natural next to your smile.

Veneers may help with:

  • Chipped, worn, or uneven front teeth
  • Stains or discoloration that whitening does not improve
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Teeth that look too short, small, or irregular in shape
  • Mild crowding or misalignment, when orthodontics is not preferred

Who may — or may not — be a good candidate

Veneers often suit adults with healthy teeth and gums who want to improve the look of their front teeth. They may not be the best first choice if you have:

  • Active tooth decay or gum disease (these are treated first)
  • Heavy grinding or clenching, unless managed with a night guard
  • Teeth with large fillings or significant damage, where a crown may protect better
  • Major bite or alignment problems better addressed with aligners first

Porcelain veneers usually require removing a thin layer of enamel, so the treatment is generally considered permanent. A consultation helps you understand whether veneers, whitening, bonding, aligners, or crowns fit your situation best.

Porcelain versus composite veneers

Porcelain

  • Made in a dental lab from ceramic
  • Highly stain-resistant with a natural, light-reflecting look
  • Typically lasts longer
  • Usually two or more visits; higher initial cost

Composite

  • Tooth-colored resin shaped directly on the tooth
  • Often completed in a single visit
  • Can stain and chip more easily over time
  • Lower initial cost; easier to repair

How planning and treatment work at Oakridge Dental

  1. Consultation. We talk about what you would like to change, examine your teeth and gums, and take digital X-rays and photos.
  2. Smile design. We plan the shape, length, and proportion of each veneer around your face and smile, and choose a custom shade so the result looks natural.
  3. Preparation. A thin layer of enamel is gently reshaped, and impressions or digital scans are taken for the lab. Temporary veneers may be placed while yours are made.
  4. Placement. We check the fit and color, then bond the veneers and refine your bite.
  5. Follow-up. We review how everything feels and recommend routine care, including a night guard if you grind.

What affects cost and longevity

Cost depends on how many teeth are treated, the material chosen, whether other care is needed first (such as gum treatment, whitening, or crown lengthening), and lab work for custom shading. Veneers are usually considered cosmetic, so dental insurance often covers little or none of the cost — we’ll give you a clear estimate after your consultation.

Longevity varies by person. Porcelain veneers often last 10 to 15 years or more with good care; composite veneers usually need repair or replacement sooner. Brushing and flossing daily, regular checkups, wearing a night guard if you grind, and avoiding biting hard objects all help veneers last.
